Clairette is composed of progestogen cyproterone acetate and the oestrogen ethinylestradiol that is taken once each day for 21 days, followed by a 7 day break when you take no pills. Primarily, Clairette is used to treat acne and oily skin conditions, so some women may prefer using Clairette for this benefit.

It is not suitable during breast feeding.
Tablets are taken orally by swallowing whole with water, once daily for 21 days, followed by a 7-day break.

When starting Clairette, the first tablet should be taken on the first day of your next period to ensure protection from the first pill.

If you are already on a different pill, then Clairette should be started on the day after you finish your last pack of your current pill.

If you have recently had a baby, Clairette should be taken 21 days after delivery as long as you are fully mobile and recovered. For the first 7 days of Clairette you will need additional contraception (e.g. condoms) to protect against pregnancy. You should contact your doctor if you have experienced miscarriage or abortion.

If one dose is missed, you should still be fully protected provided you take the next dose as usual. If more than one dose is missed, it is advised you continue taking the pill as usual but use another form of contraceptive for seven days in addition to Clairette.
As a combined pill, Clairette is a very effective form of contraception when taken as directed.
Commonly reported side effects are nausea, abdominal pain, increased weight, headache, depressed mood, altered mood, breast pain, breast tenderness.

There is an increased risk of thromboembolism for all women who use combined hormonal contraceptives such as Clairette.
